Server Improvements
July 25, 2018
An issue was noticed last night where a heavily mismatched team occurred, resulting in a mercy. The issue was caused by the system that ensures users get into the next game if they weren't in the last game. This has been resolved and mismatches such as this will not happen again. Because of the nature of ratings there will never be perfectly matched teams, but the system will select a player for each team in order of rating to ensure that they are as close as possible. The next planned enhancement is splitting of goalies (players that have played a considerable amount of games in goal). I would like to offer an apology to those that had to play in this game on the losing team, as the matchmaking was not working as intended.
There have also been some adjustments to rating calculations. Although how well you do in a loss will affect your rating, it was doing so too much, leading to dominant players suffering insignificant rating loss when losing the game. This should be much more balanced.
Finally, MVP ratings have also been adjusted. Goalie shutout MVP ratings now take into consideration the goal spread, so if a goalie enjoys the ride en route to a 6-0 mercy victory, it's not going to mean as much as if he wins a 2-1 game. A new formula has also been introduced for defencemen which is similar (but not exactly the same) as goaltenders.
The server will now select goalies for each team as well. A goalie is any player that plays at least 1/3 (33.33%) of their games in goal. Two goalies will be randomly selected at the start of the game if available.
